Renaissance Recording is a full service recording studio located in the legendary Film Center Building in Midtown Manhattan. The former home of engineer John Kilgore, the studio is now owned and operated by Grammy-Award winning engineers Derik Lee and Ian Kagey.
Combining a great acoustic recording space and control room, a vintage gear collection assembled over decades and the experience of two of New York’s most in-demand recording engineers, Renaissance is Ideal for any stage of the creative process from pre-production to the final mix.

Who we are…
Derik Lee is a 5 time Grammy Award-winning recording engineer and mixer who brings his expertise in the film, television, and musical theater space to Renaissance Recording. He has recorded the Hamilton cast album, The Greatest Showman score and album, recorded and mixed The Goldfinch score and soundtrack album, recorded and mixed Apple TV’s Spirited, and Hulu’s Only Murders In The Building songs and soundtrack. Derik’s score mixing credits also include Films Vivo and In The Heights, TV shows Alaska Daily, Hunters, The Servant, and the reboot of the game Dead Space.
Ian Kagey is a recording and mix engineer with diverse experience recording for TV shows Smash and Up Here, films West Side Story and Tick Tick Boom, Broadway cast albums Come From Away and Be More Chill, and music artists including Bruce Springsteen and Michael Bublé. He recently earned a Grammy award for mixing the cast album of Into the Woods. Most recently, Kagey recorded and mixed 9 albums of composer Michael Friedman’s unreleased works. In addition to his years of experience as a recording and mix engineer, he brings his unique expertise in large format studio management and the renovations of Power Station Studios in Manhattan to Renaissance Recording.
Resident Composer and Music Producer:
Daniel Kluger is a composer, music producer, orchestrator and sound designer, honored to be working in Studio B, former home of the legendary Hal Wilner. Known for his Tony, Grammy and Olivier nominated bluegrass orchestrations of the Broadway revival of OKLAHOMA!, Kluger’s musical work spans a range from electronic dance music, to neoclassical chamber composition, jazz and atmospheric synth soundscapes. He has created original scores for dozens of award-winning theater projects, films and podcasts. Broadway credits include the world premieres of The Sound Inside, Significant Other, Seawall / A Life, and the revival of Marvin’s Room, in addition to countless Off-Broadway productions. Film credits include The Courtroom, A Christmas Carol, Hello Again, Health to the King, among others.. Podcast scores include Audible’s The Miranda Obsession, The Guilty, Offense, and Ken Urban’s Vapor Trail.
John Kilgore is a legendary, Grammy-Award winning engineer who built the studio and continues to engineer projects at his new home at Pulse Music, Renaissance and many other places in New York.
